Lead Screening

Lead can damage nearly every system in the human body, and it has harmful effects on both adults and children.  There is no safe level of lead in the blood.  Ohio has the third highest percentage of children under age 6 with elevated blood levels.

Ohio law requires all healthcare providers to administer lead tests to children at age 1 and 2, or up to age 6 if no previous test has been completed based on the following criteria: the child is on Medicaid, lives in a high-risk ZIP code, or has certain other risk factors.

Lawrence County Health Department offers lead and hemoglobin screening by appointment.  Please call Stephanie Barnett, RN, at 740-532-3962 for more information or to make an appointment.
