CHILD SERVICES OFFERED AT LAWRENCE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT INCLUDE:

Car Seat Program (Ohio Buckles Buckeyes)

Car seats are available at Lawrence County Health Department through the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) – Violence and Injury Prevention Program.  

 

Parent Eligibility Criteria:

1. Recipient’s income is within current WIC income guidelines and is referred to the program 

2. Family must provide verification of income to prove WIC eligibility to include one of the following: paystubs for the last 30 days, WIC card, Medicaid Card, W2s/most recent tax transcript, or benefits/award letter for unemployment.  ODH will follow the most recent WIC Income Eligibility Guidelines found at http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/wic-income-eligibiliy-guidelines.  

3. Family must have a child who is within the age/weight/height requirements for a car seat a follows:

a) Child is over 5 lbs. and does not exceed the weight limits for a convertible car seat.
b) Child is at least one year old, over 22 lbs., and does not exceed the weight limits for a combination forward-facing seat
c)Child is 40 lbs. or over and does not exceed the weight or height limits of the booster seat 

4. Parent/caregiver must be present to receive seat and must attend an educational session.

Childhood Immunizations

Vaccine For Children (VFC) program administers vaccines at no cost to those eligible.  Children under 19 years of age who meet at least one of the following criteria are considered federally vaccine-eligible and therefore eligible to participate at no cost:

  • Medicaid-eligible

  • Uninsured

  • American Indian or Alaska Native

  • Under-insured

Any child who is either uninsured or under-insured will not be turned away for inability to pay. Those with no insurance and the ability to pay may be charged an administration fee of $20 per injection.  For children having private insurance and are not VFC-eligible, please contact the health department to discuss vaccine availability and private insurance billing.

 

 Immunization clinics are available at the following times:

Walk-in Clinics the first Tuesday of each month at the Health Department at 2122 South 8th Street, Ironton, from 9 – 11 a.m. and 1 – 3 p.m.

 

 

 Immunization appointments are available at other times at the Health Department. Please call 740-532-3962 to schedule an appointment.

 

 By-appointment-only immunization clinics are held: 

  • On the first Thursday of each month in the afternoon at the Early Childhood Center (County Road 1 behind the Grandview Inn) in South Point, Ohio. Call 740-532-3962 to schedule.

     

  • On the third Thursday of each month in the afternoon at the WIC Clinic at the Chesapeake Family Medical Center at 717 Third Ave., Chesapeake, Ohio.  Call 740-532-3962 to schedule.

 

CRIBS FOR KIDS

 Lawrence County Health Department has partnered with the Cribs for Kids program to provide pack 'n plays to infants who don't otherwise have a safe place to sleep.  Eligibility guidelines include: 

  • Must be a resident of Lawrence County

  • Must meet WIC income guidelines

  • 3rd trimester of pregnancy, or infant 12 months of age or younger

  • Infant doesn't already have a crib
